What is this Tell-A-Friend thing?
It’s a little widget for your blog or website so that you can basically get your loyal readers to spread the word about your particular article or product, via MSN, Facebook, and maybe create a viral effect (tho i seriously think that a viral affect has alot more to do with the product than the medium of transfer). Anyway its really easy to implement (i’ve started using it).
Update: It’s not entirely compatible with Google Chrome

Download your own “Tell-a-friend” - here
You can sign up and get the code in less than 5 minutes. If you’re a wordpress user like me, you can just download the plugin and dont need to do any code embedding (i’m terrible with code).

Do people still use Tell a Friend? I know when you have this implemented in websites they’re often neglected and not used. Even in blogs, I think now what they do is click the most popular ones only. Like Digg and etc.

Anyway, this was something I pondered when I read this post. :P

@Danny, haha yes you’ve got a point. its probably a 90% miss but it’s success is also very dependent on our TYPE of content and how much our readers appreciate it. maybe a great video or funny picture would go viral, but definitely not a blogpost like mine. :) Btw you got any feedback please feel free to leave it here. Jay Pullur (the founder behind tell-a-friend) reads here and he would love to hear your thoughts. He also asked about multi-lingual support. Any thoughts on that?

I also tried out addthis.com and sharethis.com… and ended up with addthis for the sole reason that its cut-n-paste code is a simple image link (eg ). Sharethis, on the other hand, uses a JavaScript snippet to display the buttons. As a result, I found that the page pauses for a bit when it needs to process the segment before loading the rest of the page.

@mike, same here man. there are quite a few solutions out there, and my decision was based solely on which one is easier to install and the interface is easy to access and none invasive to the blog content. Just because they support 98 different kinds of blog aggregators or what not didn’t really appeal to me.
