Flogd is an Aussie startup that allows you to sell stuff on your blog or.. even your myspace page. It’s bloody fascinating to me how people think up this stuff, but as i pondered upon the question, my girlfriend asked if I would give my opinion on this handbag she liked. and i looked over and saw her pointing not at ebay but a blog. So that question answered itself.

Anyway i tested the service myself… and heres some feedback sign up is easy provided you already have a paypal account. When you cut and paste the damned code, be careful about spacing because it’ll mess up your flash. I dont see any resizing option hence this stupid cart is blocking half my comments. So what i did was resize the images i used for the product. Anyway these guys are in beta… so other than that, great experience!

and please dont buy my phone.

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting me via my blog.

    I have read about Flogd before but have not explored it. I have not signed up so I cannot provide much feedback but having a storefront on one’s blog is nothing new.

    Mah fan or not, if there’s money to be made, by all means use it. However, you will need a seriously high trafficked blog to have any hopes of selling your items to people other than your own circle of family and friends, if you know what I mean.

    Also, judging from the shopping cart widget, it looks too large (unless you could customize it) to be placed on the sidebar, so instead of having it buried in the back pages of your blog, you will have to create a separate Page. Having said so, a page will inevitably receive less eyeballs than a widget on your homepage.

    With this in mind, I would suggest that you check out the PayPal Storefront widget. I have not checked out the fees that one needs to pay. Flogd may be free but you will still need to pay PayPal fees depending on the type of account you hold.

    I hope that my reply answers your question.

    Best regards,
    Emily

    @Emily
    Thanks for the comments! I’m not much of a trader, but i get exposed to the industry indirectly via my other half. thats a pretty sharp analysis of it… you’ll probably get along with Pin (this other blogger) very well…

    What i’m really curious about is along the lines of social shopping? You know like how social apps really shape the web except for online shopping which tends to be a very social activity in real life, but very “solo” on the internet (the amazon/ebay experience). I’ve seen facebook profiles that are actualyl shops in disguise.. but that also doesnt relaly constitute social shopping. i was thinking more like chat bar next to shopping cart or something. have you ever come across anything like that?

    Hi,

    I am not sure I have ever come across something like that before but have you checked out CloudShout? It has the potential to do what you have in mind, if only there’s someone to develop such a blog application.
